A collection of eccentric characters in dire situations trying to pull off a maple syrup heist to save their financial troubles
When maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry finds her livelihood under attack from greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a scheme to exact revenge and shake up the industry. Loosely based on the theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a warehouse in Quebec in 2011-2012; five people were sentenced to prison. Ruth, whose husband is in a coma, has lost the right to sell maple syrup to the cartel, run by Leonard.
He is the only guard for the entire supply of maple syrup
Turns out her husband owns the rights to harvest the syrup, so she has been fined for using his rights illegally. Remy, a kind of sad character, is the guard at the warehouse where all the syrup is stored and has been stealing a barrel or two from the warehouse at night, with a friend who is suddenly killed. Since Ruth got into financial trouble, the only way to move forward was to steal on a much larger scale, and she and Remy brought Mike into the scheme.
The truth is quite different
Mike seems like a powerhouse who can do big things. And with all the personality clashes and mix-ups, it almost becomes a bit of a caper for the Keystone cops. Every time they seem to have things under control, trouble happens, and their approach to trying to solve them is a big part of the humor.
And a very interesting guest appearance
One excuse is that this leads into a second season, so there are loose ends galore. And as it turns out, that’s not how the actual heist was pulled off. So, this is a funny fictional account.
